Sports Nutrition

The food we eat affects every cell and system in our body. It optimises how you look, feel and perform. The right nutrition can make the difference between 'average' and 'exceptional', both mentally and physically.

We provide personal Nutritional Consultations across the UK. These consultations are suitable for serious athletes and professional sports people.

My most recent clients have embarked on:

  • Successful qualification for the Ironman World Championships
  • Competing at the Beijing Olympics and set to star at London 2012
  • Playing in the Barclays Premiership and the npower Championship.
  • Ascent of Makalu, Lhotse, Kangchenjunga, K2 and Everest in a mere three months
  • Another walked 7,524km around the coastline of Ireland; and he is currently in training for the 17,820km coastline of the United Kingdom
  • We also have a client focusing on a South Pole solo mission

Our goal is to help you optimise your health and performance. Understanding your personal dietary needs and the effect foods have on your wellbeing will help you to perform at the highest level possible. Dietary guidance is always practical, realistic and tailored to fit in with your lifestyle. Priorities are on nutrition to nourish your body for the demands you place upon it.

Prior to a meeting, you'll complete 3 questionnaires; this information helps us evaluate where you are currently and the likely areas for improvement. The data that is collected comes from different sectors of your life and helps us build a 3 Dimensional profile of you, your body and what makes you tick.

The first questionnaire is

Lifestyle Analysis and Questionnaire

This in depth survey helps identify what makes you tick, your motivations, day to day habits, working strategies, likes, dislikes and trends. When we analyse the answers we can identify patterns that can provide insights into your behaviours which may have been contributing to your results and highlight immediate areas for improvement.

Symptom related questionnaire

This is a detailed questionnaire designed to find any imbalances in your body; it tackles all areas of the body, immune system, digestive function, neurotransmitter release. It provides insight into areas of likely imbalance and importantly areas which may require further investigation.

Metabolic evaluation

This detailed evaluation will suggests food groups and ratios of macro nutrients which would be most suited to your metabolic type, it takes the guess work out of beginning your programme. For example: You may be metabolically suited to having a diet that has higher or lower levels of carbohydrates.

Everyone has a slightly different metabolic makeup if you take two ends of the spectrum and contrast people who live in arctic regions and those that live around the Mediterranean. Throughout the millions of years of human evolution and adaption those two different populations will have adapted widely differing metabolic profiles due to the foods that they typically consume.

Even with what might be considered similar ethnic backgrounds there can be big differences, it's why I need to eat more often than my partner, often she will say 'I can't believe you're hungry again'. You might know people that can eat a really poor diet but never seem to put on any fat. These differences are often due to differences in metabolic type.

This information is essential to fine tuning your diet so we can match your metabolic type with your nutritional requirements.

Personal Consultation

We'll then meet in person and have a consultation that will last for up to an hour maybe longer. We'll review the results of your questionnaires. We'll discuss your sporting goals and develop a plan for realising them. We'll also conduct a comprehensive 13 point skin fold body fat analysis.

Report

A report will be written collating the information from all 3 questionnaires and our personal consultation. We'll use this report as key reference point as you make changes and improvements over the coming 6 months. A key component of this report will be the detailed nutritional strategy that we set up

Monthly consultations

We'll touch base each month face to face or via Skype to monitor your progress, resolve potential problems and set new targets and goals so you continue to improve. We'll also re-analyse your body composition.

Final Consultation

We'll review your progress and discuss areas for future improvement and development.

Our Nutritionist is a member of The British Association for Applied Nutrition and Nutritional Therapy (BANT) and a certified Sports Nutritionist with the International Society of Sports Nutrition (CISSN), has a huge passion for food, science, and nutrition really fascinates. An educational background in science has allowed her to gain a deep understanding of the complexities of nutrition, including the biochemical processes involved with food, nutrients, training, lifestyle and body interactions.
